Global Sustainable Journey towards Renewable Energy
As the world continues its search to address climate change, we continue to suffer the
worsening consequences of our insensitive and unwary actions primarily in burning fossil
fuels. Climate change causes a significant rise in temperature, creating severe effects to our
environment, economy and society. Despite this, we linger to find the solution in addressing
this issue. Renewable energy offers a sustainable response that can mitigate the impacts of
climate change naturally.
FLASH FLOODS
Known as a greenhouse gas, Carbon dioxide (CO2) is an important heat trapping gas. Human activities have raised atmospheric CO2 by fifty percent (50%) due to the onset of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century and is now at one hundred fifty percent (150%) level. The widespread use of fossil fuels, like coal and oil for energy production led to a significant increase in its emissions into the atmosphere. Increased industrial production and transportation resulted in the deforestation of massive areas of forest further aggravating the issue. In 2023, the global average atmospheric carbon dioxide was 419.3 parts per million (ppm) setting a record high based on the annual report from NOAA’s Global Monitoring Lab. According to the Global Carbon Budget 2023, the annual emissions from burning fossil fuels increased every decade from 11 billion tons in 2023.
Value of Water
The Earth is largely blue when you look at it from space, which shows the abundance of water around us. Only one percent (1%) of it is freshwater. Water being the lifeblood of our planet, provides many purposes for mankind such as health, food, manufacturing, energy, agriculture, transportation and more. It is also important to our environment. Water allows plants, mangroves and peatlands to filter water, purify air, store carbon, reduce soil erosion, cultivate biodiversity and offer protection from storms and droughts.
Jane Fonda Climate PAC
Jane Fonda, the multi awarded actress and known activist has shifted her focus and efforts to fight for climate change policies to be effectively implemented in government. In March 2022, she launched the Jane Fonda PAC – Political Action Committee.
Climate Change and Christian Ethics
The image was coined “Earthrise”. It was the first colour photograph of Earth taken from space and quickly circulated around the world. The photo is widely credited with propelling the global environmental movement and leading to the creation of Earth Day, an annual event promoting environmental activism and awareness, in 1970.
The Philippines and Plastic Waste Managment.
The Philippines is an island country of Southeast Asia in the western Pacific Ocean. It is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands and islets with a current population of 119 million. The country is known for its varied natural resources and wonderful places. New York based travel site Conde Nast Traveler (CNT) recognized its beauty, as it was named among the “40 Most Beautiful Countries in the World” in June 2022.
Philippines No. 1 Hazard Zone Due To Climate Change
Lately, the Philippines has been in the global news because of the counterclaims and skirmishes on the West Philippine seas. Pretty soon, the Philippines will land the world’s notice again as No. 1 hazard zone due to climate change.
Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation
Climate change and its impact to our lives
Climate change is a reality affecting millions of people across the world. It is one of the most complex concerns we are facing today. It is a global problem felt on both local and international scale that has been around for years. The greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and fluorinated gases among other gases are the primary driver of global warming. These gases occur naturally, however, human activities led to increasing their concentrations in the atmosphere causing global warming. The amount of continuous emission and how exactly climate responds to those emissions determines the rate of climate change. These heat trapping gases linger in the atmosphere for thousands of years, but Earth took a while to respond to this. Therefore, even if we stopped emitting all greenhouse gases now, global warming and climate change will continue to impact our lives and our future generations. Because humanity has contributed greatly to the emissions of these greenhouse gases, we are also committed at some level to counter climate change through mitigation and adaptation.
Plastic Waste Management
Plastic is universal; it is the backbone of globalization. They are essential in our modern age due to the growth of information technology and smart packaging systems. Plastic has many valuable uses. However, we have become addicted to single-use plastic products with severe environmental, social, economic and health consequences. Around the world, one million plastic bottles are purchased every minute, while up to five trillion plastic bags are used worldwide every year.
Sustainable Innovation
The evolution of technology and the demand for sustainable products and processes is becoming one of the main drivers of revenue growth and cost reduction across industries. Today’s sustainability leaders are four times more likely to be considered innovation leaders compared to those not focused on sustainability. Sustainable innovation finds ways to ensure resources. They aren’t used faster than they are replenished and limit the negative impact of business activity on society and the planet. This belief is driving innovations in all areas of business
